The Chicago Air Jordan 1 is the most recognizable of all the Jordan signature sneakers and in 2013 Jordan Brand gave sneaker enthusiasts the chance to revisit memories with the release of the Air Jordan 1 Retro Chicago. Prior to this release, the Chicago version of the Air Jordan 1 had been one of the most rare variations of Jordan retros. In fact, excluding the patent leather version that released in 2003, Chicago AJ1s had only released twice before, in 1985 and 1994. Considering that Michael Jordan wore this colorway of the Air Jordan 1 more than any other colorway during his rookie year, and even played in a pair in 1998 during his final game at NYC’s Madison Square Garden as a Chicago Bull, it was obvious the demand for the 2013 Chicago Jordan 1s would be plentiful. Interestingly enough, the White/Varsity Red-Black Jordan 1 Retro did not come with the Nike Air branding, even though the “Knicks” AJ1 did and released around the same time. Nevertheless, it sold incredibly well thanks to the red, white and black Bulls inspired colorway. Of course, the nearly twenty year wait for dedicated sneaker enthusiasts and Chicago Bulls fans almost guaranteed the 2013 Air Jordan Retro 1 High Chicago would sell out, despite the Jumpman logo on the tongue that may be less than desirable for the purists.
